§ MethodologyHow position sizing works

Three steps. No guessing.

Proper position sizing protects your account. Instead of guessing share count, you size every trade around a fixed dollar risk.

  1. 01

    Set your risk

Pick a fixed percent of your account to risk per trade. Most disciplined traders stay in the 1–2% range.

  2. 02

    Measure your stop

Stop distance is the difference between entry price and stop loss — your dollar risk per share.

  3. 03

    Size the position

Divide total dollar risk by per-share stop distance. That number is how many shares you can buy.
